If you have spent any time at all online, you will already be familiar with the concept of gifting clubs. Their existence is quite familiar to anyone who happens to be involved in MLM marketing and there is a great deal of crossover in terms of scope and effort, but if this is a type of business that you have taken an interest in, there are several things that you need to know. Many people think that gifting clubs might be a great way to get started and make some money, but this is hardly ever the case.
The first thing that you should know about gifting clubs is that they are illegal in many states, and where they are not, they are often observed quite closely any time they come to the attention of the local authorities. This gives many people a pause, but due to the fact that these clubs are often such ephemeral organizations, this is not often a fact that comes to light soon enough to help anyone who is involved in them.
Essentially, gifting clubs are like the chain letters that asked you to add your name to the bottom of a list and send a dollar to the person at the top of the list. In this way, by the time the letter reached a certain amount of people, you would get a substantial sum. At its most basic, this is a pyramid scheme, something that is considered unethical at best, and illegal at worst. There are many risks involved with this plan, and many problems as well.
The first thing to keep in mind with a gifting club is that there is no assurance that the people you contact will want to respond in kind, and furthermore, there is no indication or assurance that the people they contact will do so either. It is hard to measure devotion or time commitment, and with this opportunity, this is all that you have when it comes to assets.
Gifting clubs are typically only beneficial to the people who start them. At that point, they are relatively new and the people who get the original notice have never seen it before. This promotes more people to send in money and enthusiasm is usually a great deal higher. Essentially, this means that the farther out you are, the more likely it is that you will see very little return for your efforts.
Honesty is a big factor in dealing with people in Gifting Clubs. Some companies now use sophisticated software so no one can cheat anyone, the money goes straight to the company. But according to MLM Law, they might not be able to do this anymore. Before I joined any gifting club, I would ask the owner if I could visit his office and speak with him first, especially if I depended to use gifting to allow myself to earn a full-time income.
As you can see, gifting clubs are risky propositions at best. If you get an invitation to join one, examine its origin and the people who sent it to you very closely. It never hurts to be cautious, especially around plans like this!
